Amfar

The Foundation for AIDS Research, more commonly known as amfAR, offers grants and fundraising activities to support research on the acquired immuno-deficiency virus. The organization also supports efforts to raise awareness and educate the public on AIDS and AIDS prevention. It lobbies for appropriate AIDS-related public policy and legislation and publishes newsletters and briefs on topics like Gender-Based Violence and HIV Among Women and Efficacy of Abstinence. Funding comes from individuals, companies, and foundations; amfAR has funneled about $290 million to research activities -- both in America and abroad -- since its inception in 1985.
