The California African American Museum (CAAM) is dedicated to preserving the culture and art of African Americans. Founded in 1981, the museum consists of three exhibition galleries, a research library, sculpture court, theater gallery, and conference center. CAAM displays a history collection including artifacts and photography, as well as traditional, modern, and contemporary artwork. Jack Haywood and the late Vince Proby, both African American architects, designed the current museum facility. The museum plans to expand by creating permanent galleries, a store and caf?, and space for educational programming and presentations.
