Gene Harkins was born and raised as the oldest of four children in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Born in 1950 as Karyl Eugene Harkins Jr. in a family where the father and his father were car mechanics, Gene decided early on that he just didn’t want to continue in the family trade. From an early age he read books by Sigmund Freud, Albert Einstein, and authors of astrophysics books, developing his interest in science and in the human mind. Being exposed to Native American culture, he also developed an interest in Native American legends and medicine, which pointed the way toward his eventual immersion into natural healing.

In his early teens he assembled chemistry sets that sprawled around three walls of his room, and he busied himself working on the production of different chemical compounds. This fledgling scientific interest quickly expanded to electrical projects, from the first homemade radio using gallium crystals, paper roll, coated wire and a safety pin to broadcasting television signals and receiving it over a laser beam. While other young people his age where mowing lawns for additional money, Harkins was changing brakes on neighbors cars, rebuilding automobile carbonators, and performing a number of other sophisticated electrical projects. He also become enamored of classical music and operas and then later pop music.

During the sixties, the overall cultural fascination with Native American herbs was further developed and was expanded to homeopathy. New Mexico, the Land of Enchantment, offered ample philosophical development and discussion of different natural remedies and their applications that continues today. He immersed himself in this world and grew in both his interest and conviction in homeopathy’s merits.

On a more personal front, Dr. Gene Harkins, PhD married Victoria Pollock in 1972 and moved to Utah after becoming members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. They have two children and two grandchildren. An intensely spiritual man, Harkins is also an ordained minister via the Universal Life Church.

Gene worked in a number of fields related to science and public health over the years. He ultimately resolved to finish degrees in natural health, and over the course of several years, he obtained a B.S. Natural Health, an M.S. Natural Health, a Doctor of Natural Health, Doctor of Divinity, and a Doctor in Philosophy in Traditional Naturopathy, with concentrations in homeopathy. Homeopathy is unregulated by the state of Utah, so he opened Salt Lake Homeopathy in 2002 and continues to work toward advancing the cause of natural, homeopathic use in his adopted home state.

Throughout the course of his career, Dr. Gene Harkins , PhD has received a number of honors and accolades. He was awarded the Environmental Contribution Award by the Rene Dubos Center for Human Environment in 1997 for his work with the United Nations. He was honored by the American Association of Drugless Practitioners in 2002, and by the American Alternative Medical Association in that same year.

To boot, he holds several noteworthy U.S. patents, and has a lengthy list of publications to his name. All of this pales in comparison to the simple joy he gets from offering consultations to his clients and patients, though. His true zeal is simply for helping people to live better, healthier lives—and that is what makes Harkins a unique and effective member of his chosen field.
What does the future hold in store for Dr. Gene Harkins, PhD? It is impossible to say for sure what tomorrow will bring, and he remains open to whatever life throws his way. With that said, he certainly has a number of goals and objectives—including both professional goals as well as personal ones.

In terms of Harkins’ professional goals, he largely hopes to maintain the status quo. He loves the practice of homeopathic healing, and relishes every opportunity he has to point patients toward a healthier way of living. He hopes to continue working as a homeopathic healer, and to take Salt Lake Homeopathy as far as it will go.

He especially loves the educational aspect of what he does. He loves to educate his clients on what homeopathic healing is all about. He wants to particularly focus on this in the months and years to come.

Of course, he has a number of more personal goals, as well. He is working on a book project that he hopes to finish soon. The book uncovers the quantum state of the 14 common dimensions. He is also working on the complete development of homeopathic combinations—time and dimension remedies and associated patents.

Finally, Gene hopes to continue pursuing excellence in fencing. He wishes to take the gold in his age group at the fencing nationals—no small feat, and no minor goal! In short, Dr. Gene Harkins, PhD mostly just wishes to continue striving for true excellence in everything that he does, inside the office and out.
