Lee Slaughter is the Chief Executive Officer of LWS Communications Ltd, a professional services and technology company that specializes in working with clients on program management and large-scale projects across Europe and the United Kingdom. Here Slaughter has worked on the management buy-ins, acquisition, private equity, and consulting for the past 12 years. Today he is the business owner and provides senior level program director, and executive sponsor to clients at board level.

With LWS Communications, Lee Slaughter is involved with the leadership and transaction support to management buy-out and buy-in teams and private equity partners along with advising on their business plans and strategy. He has also spearheaded major organizational and operational change projects, including compliance with the Transfer of Undertakings (Protection of Employment), or TUPE, regulations. His transactional support services experience in operational due diligence across Europe and the United Kingdom has resulted in a combined deal value of over $2.0Bn US.

Lee Slaughter has a rich and vastly experienced professional history spanning many positions and responsibilities across a variety of companies and organizations. His training, education, and long experience in the communications, information technology and services industries have coalesced to make Slaughter a top executive in his industry.

Education and Training

Lee began his professional training in electrical engineering with the City & Guilds London Institute. He attained his Electrical Engineering Certifications A, B, and C in June of 1983. Three years later in June of 1986, he also earned his Applications Programming Certification.

From there, He entered the electrical engineering industry, working his way through several fields of engineering, telecommunications and technology. While working as a Head of Integrated Networks in 1999, Slaughter earned his master’s degree in business administration (MBA) from Manchester Metropolitan University. His thesis dealt with the issue of global strategy.

Lee Slaughter also benefited from various corporate management and leadership training through corporate programs with both Salford University, C&W College. Slaughter also attended many technical and management training opportunities with industry vendors including Cisco, Juniper, and Ericsson et al, studying both technology, engineering and management aspects.

Early Career Experience

After gaining his initial professional certifications from the City & Guilds London Institute, Lee began his early career in the electrical engineering industry. Here he worked in commercial and industrial electrical engineering, including low, medium, and high voltage transmission and power generation. He also worked on TPNE industrial installations while working with electrical engineering firms such as WH Smith Elect (consulting) Engineers.

In 1988, Lee Slaughter transitioned into telecommunications, joining Pactel. Working in a variety of engineering roles prior to becoming General Manager. In this position he worked primarily in infrastructure development and network planning. During his time here, up to 1992, Lee helped improve revenues (£14m) and reduce capex / operating costs.

In 1992, Pactel was acquired by Nynex Cablecomms, where Slaughter became a General Manager and the Head of Integrated Networks. Notably, this marked the first time that 12 different CATV/Telco/Broadband franchise areas could be run from a single head on a fibre infrastructure back bone. His responsibilities mostly included network and civil engineering, including the design, planning, and building of more than 500,000 kilometers of civil U/G networks, covering £1.1bn serving £1.7m business & consumer premises. He also worked with co-ordination with other utility & service providers under the New Roads and Street Works Act of 1991.

During this Slaughter also worked for Cable & Wireless, who acquired Nynex CC, as their Director of Planning and Network Engineering. Lee ran a staff of 1,800 and a budget of c.£110m Opex, c.£270+m Capex. His responsibilities included the planning and deployment of broadband networks as well as working with data-comms, mobile networks, fixed access networks, and fiber optics.

In 1999, Lee joined GTS – Access Services as the Vice President of Marketing, where he worked to establish the GTS brand and services across 12 different European countries including the United Kingdom. In 2000, he became the Chief Executive Officer of I-Net Communications Group Plc. For the next two years, Lee established the implementation and strategy of the group. He was responsible for establishing the leading converged services – unified-comms business in the UK, and positioning the business as UK’s 5th mobile network. This included restructuring their organization to better take advantage of new technology and markets.

Later Career Experience

After leaving I-Net Communications Group in 2002, Lee Slaughter spent the next decade taking on several interim director roles. One of the most notable of these roles occurred between November of 2002 and June of 2004, when he became the Interim Program Director and Head of Implementation with DTI Broadband Taskforce.

Here Slaughter originated the concept of, and worked with the aggregation of public sector ICT spend, to create more commercially viable projects and contracts to enable private sector businesses to increase broadband availability inline with HMG’s economic development plan.
After a successful career through the telecommunications and electrical engineering industries, leading many original and innovative solutions, Lee Slaughter has reached a position of great professional career success.
