The medical field is vast and constantly changing, and Vernon Pertelle recognizes the importance of remaining adaptable and proactive in this environment. He focuses on staying up-to-date with the latest research and developments in order to most effectively benefit his clients. As president and CEO of StratiHealth, a multi-faceted health care services and solutions organization, he provides strategic planning and care for a multitude of organizations. Areas of service include strategic planning, business development, technology assessment, clinical research, telehealth, change management and operational efficiency.

Throughout his career he has refined his ability to support companies in increasing operational efficiency and effectiveness, driving market share, assessing market dynamics, generating revenue and reducing expenses. Pertelle has worked across the continuum of care including acute care hospitals and health systems, sub-acute care, skilled nursing, long-term acute care, home care, DME/HME, managed organizations and medical groups.

Vernon Pertelle draws on a strong and diverse background to assist him in helping businesses to thrive. He not only possesses formal business training, but also medical training as well. He holds his respiratory therapist license, cardiopulmonary technologist license, licensed vocational nurse and is currently pursuing his registered nursing license and has been a certified case manager. Having this expansive education allows him to see situations from all sides; he understands the challenges that medical professionals are facing, as well as administrative issues. This aids him in devising more effective solutions.

One area that he has taken particular interest in is respiratory care, advocating for respiratory therapists to become a more integrated part of care in non-traditional settings. Pertelle is focused on ensuring that patients have access to exceptional attention and that businesses are running as smoothly, effectively, and efficiently as possible. As associate executive director at Pulmonary Horizons, San Diego, California, he plays an integral role in providing patient-centered educational programming and training to improve effectiveness of the treatment and management of patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD).
Vernon Pertelle understands the complex nature of the health care system. He has spent years acquiring a comprehensive education and experience regarding many facets of operations and care. This has supported him in forging a successful business that offers a variety of services geared toward supporting health care organizations of all sizes.

Before founding his own company, however, Vernon Pertelle worked his way up, gaining hands-on experience and building his knowledge and skills. He became familiar with how different organizations operated and the challenges that they faced. Working through each situation led him to develop a more extensive and diverse array of tools and resources that he has applied to his work. Pertelle has spent years studying and training to become a more well-rounded professional capable of providing high-quality, comprehensive services.

A Diverse Education
Over the course of his career, he has achieved several licenses and degrees. His journey began when he became a licensed cardiopulmonary technologist and vocational nurse through the U.S. Navy School for Health Sciences in 1984. Through his studies he developed deeper insight into the medical profession, and it drove his interest in respiratory care. A few years later he decided to go back to school and attended California College-San Diego, where he graduated with his license as a respiratory care therapist.

This is an area that he continued to take an increased interest in, and it led to several opportunities in the future; furthermore, it is something that Vernon Pertelle is focused on with expanding his current business, StratiHealth. He recognizes the growing need for services in this area and the important role that they play in helping patients to manage chronic conditions such as COPD. In order to establish more effective communications and business relationships and improve his understanding of the medical care necessary, he is in the process of becoming a registered nurse.

In addition to the clinical aspect of care, there is also the business aspect. This is something that also drew Vernon Pertelle’s interest. He previously took courses in general business administration and management at the University of California Los Angeles, and is currently attending Harvard University to obtain his degree in this field. He also holds his designation as a certified project manager, a certified case manager, and a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. Earning two degrees simultaneously, both in nursing and business administration, is a lot of work, but he is committed to furthering his education and excelling in his career. He knows that having this comprehensive background will allow him to provide even better services to his clients and lead the way to new opportunities to advance business operations and medical care.

Focusing on Respiratory Care
After earning his license as a respiratory care practitioner, Vernon Pertelle worked as a pulmonary outreach supervisor for home health at Palomar Health, Escondido, California. He played an instrumental role in identifying and contracting with organizations that were in need of respiratory services. He provided case management for home health services and coordinated with skilled nursing facilities to accommodate Medicare Part A respiratory therapy services.

After two years he took a position as a respiratory case management supervisor with Graybill Medical Group, Escondido, Calif., where he worked mainly with COPD, asthma and congestive heart failure (CHF) cases. Through his work here, he developed a more intricate knowledge of the health care system and how to design and implement effective case management programs, negotiate contracts and navigate insurance processes.

Business Administration and Management
Turning his focus toward more expansive business operation a few years later, Vernon Pertelle worked for several companies in the area of contract negotiations, benefits administration, consulting, process improvement, strategic planning, clinical operations, business development and more. He oversaw multi-million dollar budgets and worked with companies to streamline processes, improve performance, increase revenue, decrease expenses, adhere to compliance standards and implement more effective programs.

He has combined his education and experience in his current work with StratiHealth and Pulmonary Horizons and is committed to improving operational efficiency as well as increasing respiratory care services. Vernon is leading the way to better health and financial outcomes for patients with COPD, and advancing health care operations and development throughout the industry.
Vernon Pertelle has a wealth of ideas for how to continue improving services in the future. He plans to increase the focus on respiratory care and advocacy for increased integration of respiratory therapists into non-traditional settings. Their care is essential for improving treatment and management of conditions such as COPD and extends the outreach and services of these facilities.

Another area that he would like to generate more advocacy for is improving health options and access for veterans. To accomplish this he plans on working more closely with the American Legion and becoming more involved with collaborative efforts.

He remains active in pursuing his nursing license and becoming a registered nurse in order to bolster his background in the medical field. This will provide him with more insight into care and cultivating strong relationships and connections with professionals in order to better establish respiratory therapists as a more integral part of the continuum of care. He is passionate about respiratory care and pushing for advancements in these services.

This is also an area that he plans on focusing on with StratiHealth. He is in the process of shifting the organization into a position as a leading provider of respiratory patient center care. He wants to become a more influential force in leading organizations to take advantage of the benefit of comprehensive respiratory care and services and the impact that they can have on patient health. To support these claims he plans to conduct clinical trials and publish the results in respected peer reviewed journals to educate others regarding improved outcomes.
These peer reviewed journals would open new doors and help businesses to develop more effective policies and structured organizational plans. Vernon Pertelle will continue to consult with organizations on improved management techniques and strategies and increasing efficiency and quality while reducing excess expenses. He maintains a commitment to improving overall health care services for both patients and providers.
