Jovan Hayre is an ambitious young real estate agent serving the greater New York City area.
Jovan Hayre is an entrepreneur living in New York City. A newly licensed real estate agent, he is eager and excited to break into the industry and help clients sell their properties or find the home of their dreams. Mr. Hayre understands the local real estate market and can help narrow down neighborhoods that will fit well with each specific client.

Mr. Hayre is also passionate about fashion. He believes that fashion and real estate can and should intersect and that the perfect styling can help a home sell quickly. He reads fashion news and follows trends and is eager to apply those trends to real estate. Similarly, he regularly follows current trends in interior design.

Jovan Hayre frequently uses social media platforms to engage his local community. He is the administrator of an online group for young, gay men in New York City. Hayre helps create networking opportunities for these men and facilitates the start of friendships. He mentors newly “out” individuals and gives them guidance as they begin this new phase of life.

Hayre also is an active volunteer. Currently, he supports the American Red Cross in its efforts to rebuild his home state of New Jersey after the recent hurricane. The hurricane invigorated his desire to serve with the American Red Cross because he realized the enormous impact the organization has on communities that are hurting. He also volunteers with an organization called “So Gay So What!” That organization champions equal rights and equal respect for members of the LGBTQ population. Ultimately, Hayre strives for a community that does not view sexual orientation as a critical defining characteristic of people.
Jovan Hayre left New Jersey in 2008 to begin his collegiate career. In pursuit of a degree, he crisscrossed the nation beginning in California and ending in Florida. After leaving New Jersey he found himself beneath the sunny skies and palm tree-lined streets of Santa Monica, California. Santa Monica is a coastal community located in Los Angeles County. Santa Monica features a bustling economy bolstered by the tourism and entertainment industries. While there, he attended Santa Monica College and studied international business.

Santa Monica College is a two-year junior college that allows students to earn associate degrees or certificates in more than 80 academic fields of study. Many of the 34,000 students annually served by the college go on to four-year academic institutions.

The business department at Santa Monica College aims to prepare students for immediate employment in the career of their choosing. The college helps students meet and interact with business leaders in a variety of industries including film, tourism, design and technology. Santa Monica College strives to graduate future business owners, entrepreneurs, managers and dedicated employees.

The college offers associate’s degrees in the following business programs:
- Business administration
- Management and leadership
- Merchandising

Certificate programs are offered with the following specialties:
- Entrepreneurship
- International business
- Management and leadership
- Marketing
- Merchandising

A separate program also awards students an associate’s degree in business administration for the purposes of transferring to a four-year institution. This course of study satisfies most of the lower-level business requirements for California State University Programs. Students, like Jovan Hayre, also sometimes go on to institutions in other states.

While in California, Mr. Hayre worked a retail job at GAP. There he folded and stocked the store’s inventory of clothes and assisted in the stockroom. He also assisted customers shopping for clothes and worked the cash register. This job taught him the importance of a strong work ethic and pushed him to complete his degree and continue further in his pursuit of a business career.

Florida

Jovan Hayre left California and headed back to the east coast. He settled in Miami, Florida, in 2010, and enrolled at Florida International University to complete his degree in international business. Jovan Hayre chose the university because of its esteemed reputation for business. In 2013, the university’s undergraduate program in international business was ranked 8th in the nation by Bloomberg BusinessWeek.

Florida International University’s international business program consistently ranks among the top in the nation. According to U.S. News & World Report, the program currently ranks in the top 10. The university’s position in Miami, a business hub for the state of Florida, provides students with ready access to a variety of diverse companies. Students in the program are able to explore various careers in business to find the industry that suits their interests. Each year, 6,000 undergraduates enroll in Florida International University’s business school.

The university at large caters to the whole student body by offering a range of athletic, social and civic organizations. It also offers students the opportunity to participate in academic research as the first and only public research university in Miami. Florida International is widely recognized as a top-tier research institution.

Florida International University also prepares students effectively for interaction with people from a range of backgrounds. The university currently ranks in first place for awarding bachelor’s and master’s degrees to Hispanic students. In fact, 61 percent of the student population is Hispanic. More than 11, 000 students graduate from the university each year.

In 2011, Hayre moved to New York City and began working small jobs while deciding the direction he wanted his career to take. He quickly discovered he had an affinity and passion for real estate and took courses to pass his licensing exams. Jovan Hayre worked tirelessly to study and prepare for his exam, which he recently passed. After obtaining his license he began networking to build a client base and drum up business. A member of the LGBTQ population, he realized a niche he could play by assisting young gay people in finding properties that will be welcoming, comfortable and perfect for them.

He is motivated to tap into a growing population of potential homebuyers. After the most recent recession, many of his peers moved back home to save money and put off purchasing or renting properties of their own. Jovan studied best practices for reaching first-time homebuyers and is eager to put those studies into practice. Jovan Hayre spent the first few months after obtaining his license scoping out the real estate market in the City and taking notes about specific properties, general neighborhoods and demographics that he can use when marketing or showing properties.
Jovan Hayre is dedicated to serving his community both professionally and personally. He helps young gay men assimilate into New York City by providing social outings and networking opportunities. He plans to use some of these events to tap into a potential wealth of new clients as young people step out into the housing market for the first time.

Mr. Hayre continues to volunteer with the Red Cross and hopes to give in any way possible. Especially in the wake of Hurricane Sandy, he saw the need for young, active volunteers to help communities rebuild after disasters. Even without disasters, Hayre hopes to be a force for change in his community. His involvement with the So Gay So What! organization is deeply important to him and he is working to change the way people interact with the LGBTQ population. He desires to see a day when sexual orientation is not considered a defining characteristic of a person.

As a real estate professional, Mr. Hayre knows he is a small fish in a vast ocean. There are many well-known and respected agents and even more hopefuls trying, too, to break into the industry. Jovan plans to use his international business experience to find unassisted homebuyers and locate the properties of their dreams. Mr. Hayre’s interest in fashion provides him an opportunity to uniquely market properties in interesting and innovative ways. Jovan Hayre hopes to make artistic and fashion-forward home staging a regular part of the industry.
