Dr. Pradeep Jain of Fortis Healthcare, is the Director of the hospital’s Laparoscopic GI and GI Oncology Surgery Department. He has a wide range of experience with many different types of surgery, specifically gastroenterology surgery. He holds particularly specialized expertise in liver, pancreas, bariatric (weight loss), laparoscopic colorectal, thoracolaparoscopic esophagectomy and laparoscopic oncology surgery.
Thanks to his excellent training, experience, and successful surgical track record, Pradeep is held in very high regard by his colleagues. They often come to him for advice on their own cases, and if they still cannot figure them out, Dr. Jain is always willing to take them on himself. He works primarily with minimally invasive surgical techniques for all of his patients whenever possible.
By achieving such success in the surgical field, he is fulfilling a long-held childhood dream. He has always wanted to help people, and today is proud to make that his career especially with Fortis Healthcare. Pradeep especially likes the satisfaction that comes with being an expert surgeon, specifically seeing a patient come to him with an issue and being able to diagnose and fix the problem.
Despite his long history and experience in his field, Dr. Jain considers each individual surgical procedure unique and treats each individual new patient with extreme importance. He currently lives with his wife in North West Delhi in India, and is the only gastrointestinal specialist surgeon in his area. He holds a super-specialist degree in both Gastrointestinal Surgery and Hepatobiliary Surgery.
Dr. Pradeep Jain was born on August 7, 1964. From the time he was a young child, he had always wanted to be a surgeon. Through years of hard work, dedication, training, education, and a lot of experience, he was finally able to achieve his goal.
Education and Clinical Experience
Dr. Pradeep Jain, Fortis Healthcare surgical specialist, first began his journey to becoming the surgeon that he is today at Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi. Here he studied for 4 and half years, graduating with his Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) degree in December of 1985.
From there he went on to gain clinical experience at the Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narain Hospital in Delhi (associated with maulana Azad Medical College ), where he did exhaustive training as an Intern for the full year of 1986 followed by junior residency in Surgery in 1987 subsequently joining the postgraduate program in 1988
While still associated with Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narain Hospital, the future Dr. Pradeep Jain, Fortis Healthcare surgeon, studied hard in postgraduate program, emerging in July of 1990 with his Master’s degree in General Surgery. During this time, Jain continued his clinical experience with both the college and the hospital as part of his postgraduate work.
In August of 1990, Dr. Jain became a Senior Resident of Surgery for Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narain Hospital, a position which he held for the next three years and gained extensive surgical experience. Then, in March of 1994, he worked in Department of Minimally invasive surgery in Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi, as Senior Resident of Surgery. This lasted until May of that same year, when Pradeep joined back in the G.B. Pant Hospital in order to continue furthering his education.
Back at G.B. Pant, Dr. Pradeep Jain, Fortis Healthcare future surgical department director, began the necessary work and study to earn his super-specialist degree ( M.Ch ) in Gastroenterology and Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery, a very prestigious and sought after program, which he completed in May of 1996. During this time, and afterward until April of 1997, Dr. Jain worked as G.B. Pant Hospital’s Senior Resident of G.E. Surgery.
Pradeep Work Afterward
After May of 1997, Dr. Jain became the Senior Consultant, Gastrointestinal and Hepatobiliary pancreatic Surgery in a variety of premium hospitals. These included Max Hospital in Pitam Pura, Maharaja Agrasen Hospital in Punjabi Bagh, Primus Hospital in Chanakya Puri and Rajeev Gandhi Cancer institute in Rohini. Dr. Jain worked in various hospitals before accepting the position of Chief, Gastrointestinal Oncosurgery Unit for the Rajeev Gandhi Cancer Institute and Research Center, Rohini in Sept 2009. While working in these positions Dr Jain had training in Advanced Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery in Seol, South Korea in Jan. 2006
In October of 2010, Dr. Jain finally joined Fortis Hospital in Shalimar Bagh. Here he became Dr. Pradeep Jain, Fortis Healthcare Director, Laparoscopic Gastrointestinal Surgery, Gastrointestinal Oncosurgery, and Bariatric Surgery. He still holds this position to this day, three years later.
Beyond the Hospital
In addition to his long career history of surgical duties and skills, Pradeep as well as Fortis Healthcare have also helped advance the surgical field in several other ways.
To begin with, after obtaining all of his degrees, Dr. Jain went on to share his knowledge with other aspiring surgery students. Throughout his career, he has amassed more than 20 years of experience teaching surgery to many different kinds of students. These include undergraduate students, postgraduate medical students, junior hospital residents, and nurses in training.
Dr. Jain has also advanced the surgical field through his extensive research work. This includes the thesis that he wrote during his postgraduate years entitled “Comparative Evaluation of Choledochoduodenostomy and Transduodenal Shicteroplasty in Biliary Decompression.” He has also completed a dissertation entitled “Choledochal Cyst,” which he conducted during his time at the G.B. Pant Hospital Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery.
For Dr. Pradeep Jain has a long history of past success is no reason or excuse to slow down. A doctor’s work is never done, so likewise, Dr. Jain will always have an intensely busy with Fortis Healthcare in the future. But because of the satisfaction that helping others brings, this dedicated surgeon would not have it any other way.
For starters, Dr. Jain continues to aspire to clinical excellence in all of his surgical practices. This means continuing his work fighting against gastrointestinal cancer by performing laparoscopic cancer surgery of the entire gastrointestinal tract when necessary. Dr. Pradeep Jain of Fortis Healthcare also has several more research papers which are awaiting acceptance. These include a case report on amoebic gastrojejunocolic fistula. His Video presentation of modified technique of Thoracoscopic Ivor Lewis Esophagectomy won him a Prize in National conference of ‘Indian society of Surgical Gastroenterologists’ in Oct 2013.
What all of this boils down to, however, is that he remains committed to his patients and their health. Whatever type of surgery they may need, Dr. Pradeep Jain will continue to do his best to help save and improve every life that is put into his care.
