Since 2001, Lisa has served as an instructor at the University of Nevada, Reno, within the college of education. She creates a classroom atmosphere that encourages and supports both whole group and small group interaction. Lisa Zaccheo, Reno instructor, also produces a challenging and meaningful environment that cultivates interest and growth in all aspects of literacy, while extending diverse instructional methods in class discussions, class presentations, experiences with children, and hands-on activities. From 1997-1998, Lisa Zaccheo, Reno mother, was a first grade teacher at Dodson Elementary School. From 1994 to 1997, she worked as a first grade teacher at Graystone Elementary School in the San Jose Unified School District in San Jose, California. She was also a gifted and talented education teacher at Williams Elementary School. Lisa served as a pre-kindergarten teacher in 1993 at the Almaden Country School in San Jose, California. From 1991 to 1993, she was a kindergarten team teacher at the Cambridge School in Reno, Nevada.
Lisa Zaccheo, Reno-based advocate, is heavily involved with numerous charities, including Casa de Vida and the National Charity League. She cherishes the time she is able to spend with her children while volunteering in parent-child driven nonprofit organizations.
Casa de Vida is a private, nonprofit corporation providing a home and support services for pregnant, young women. Because many pregnant teens do not have valuable support systems, Casa de Vida serves as a safe haven, providing multiple benefits for young women, such as:
- A residence for pregnant young women with live-in housemothers
- A semi-independent, transitional living home for parenting young women and their infant children
- An on-site, fully accredited adult education program – offered in partnership with Washoe County School District
- Case management services
- Individual and group counseling opportunities
- Parenting, budgeting, nutrition, and child development courses
- Help with educational goals and direction for childcare, housing and job opportunities
- A Baby’s Closet, which provides free infant clothing, diapers, formula, and baby equipment
National Charity League (NCL) is a nonprofit organization that thrives as one of the nation’s leading mother-daughter membership organizations for the past 50 years. There are more than 180 chapters and 50,000 actively engagement members. The organization aims to cultivate mother-daughter relationships with an emphasis on community service, leadership development, and cultural experiences. The nonprofit strives to uphold the following values:

The NCL is committed to the development of its members as leaders, and the group is devoted to community support and hands-on volunteerism. The nonprofit has a “Live It, Love It, Share It” experience designed to help every woman succeed in achieving confidence and empowerment. Community service initiatives include support for disadvantaged children’s agencies, soup kitchens, libraries, performing arts institutions, women’s health facilities, and more. The group aims to make team building, conflict resolution, organizational skills management, and more a priority in the lives of its members. Lisa Zaccheo aims to help spread the word about the National Charity League (NCL) as a national organization determined to “share good” with the country. She will continue promoting the organization and its message, adding that it is integral to developing the nation’s youth into effective and productive members of contemporary society. Without this organization, she believes the young people will not see the support and encouragement they need to thrive.
She also hopes to continue spreading the message that contemporary teachers need to adapt to the changing populations in schools. The number of ESL students, particularly in the Southwest, is growing every day, and teachers must adjust to this trend in order to improve education overall. Lisa Zaccheo, Reno will continue to share this information, noting that bilingual students are becoming more pervasive. Teachers need to learn new languages or adapt teaching styles to accommodate to these trends.
