John Dul’s Education

Dul began his impressive career the same way that most successful professionals do – with a quality education. Dul began his by enrolling in the University of Miami in 1979, where he was one of only ten recipients of a full academic scholarship. Dul put this honor to effective use by graduating magna cum laude just three years later in 1982 with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration degree in Accounting.

In 1983, Dul enrolled in the School of Law at Northwestern University in Chicago, IL. Here his course concentration was primarily business related, including courses in corporate finance, regulated industries, taxation, economics, corporate, and securities law. He graduated in 1986.

John Dul’s Early Work Experience

For little over a year between his graduation from the University of Miami and his enrollment at Northwestern University School of Law, Dul worked as a Certified Public Accountant for the international accounting firm Deloitte, in its Miami office. As an associate in the firm’s audit department, he conducted regulatory and financial audits. Notable achievements include passing the CPA exam on the first attempt and discovering instances of fraud on a banking client through the performance of a forensic audit.

After graduating from Northwestern University’s School of Law in 1986, Dul joined Chapman & Cutler, a large law firm in Chicago, IL. Here he worked for two years as an associate in their securities department. His responsibilities in this position included assisting in the drafting of prospectuses, assuring compliance with state securities laws, and conducting due diligence for underwriters.

In 1988, Dul left Chapman & Cutler for the mid-size law firm of Shefsky & Froelich. Here he became an associate in the corporate department, where he assisted the partners in all aspects of corporate practice within the firm. He served as either lead or secondary counsel to small and medium-sized privately held companies. It was in this role that he became familiar with his future employer Anixter.

John Dul, Anixter Inc.

In 1990, John Dul became Anixter Assistant Secretary and Associate General Counsel of Anixter Inc. His time with this global enterprise lasted for over two decades, during which time he amassed a sizeable number of promotions and new responsibilities.

In 1995, Dul took on a similar role Anixter International Inc., the publicly held parent company of Anixter Inc. The next year, Anixter Inc. made him its General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Two years later in 1998, he also became the Vice President and General Counsel of Anixter International. Finally, in 2002, he added the title of Corporate Secretary.

For John Dul, Anixter also meant 20 years of significant achievements, including such notable examples as the following:

• He enabled the company to reduce its debt, repurchase its stock, and refocus on its core business by negotiating contracts for the sale of several North American and European divisions.

• He advised the CFO and the treasurer on a dozen different capital market and bank credit transactions with an aggregate value of over $3 billion.

• He continuously improved the productivity of the legal department, including redefining the relationship with several internal clients and leading the formation of a non-lawyer contracts group.

Additional Accomplishments

John Dul, Anixter has been a panelist for several speaking engagements. These include the General Counsel Roundtable at the Foley & Lardner National Directors Institute and the Association of Corporate Counsel’s Retaining and Managing Outside Counsel.
As a 20-year veteran executive of Anixter, John Dul has already achieved much in his impressive career, but he is not finished finding success quite yet. He is ready to put his many talents to work for the betterment of companies with the desire and ability to grow significantly.

Dul firmly believes that smaller companies have much more potential to create new jobs and new opportunities. These companies are more flexible, diverse and quick to take advantage of opportunities than their larger corporate counterparts. However, they very rarely have access to the same professional resources as their Fortune 500 counterparts. He seeks to bring his senior level corporate experience to help companies achieve their growth potential.
