After six years in education in New York City’s urban environment, Claire Zaglauer has decided it was time for a change of scenery in order to explore international education from the foreign perspective and moved to Suzhou, China, where Claire is furthering her exposure to bilingual education in an immersion environment.
In her career, Claire Zaglauer began her first teaching assignment as the founding kindergarten teacher of the first bilingual French public school program in Manhattan at P.S. 84 The Lillian Weber School along with colleague and founding 1st grade teacher Celine Beloeil. Shortly thereafter, Claire took on her first administrative role at the IB program at the New York French American Charter School as Assistant Principal along with Principal Edith Boncompain. Continuing this track with many school-wide improvements including testing using the DELF internationally recognized French Proficiency exam in the school as well as the inclusion of an intercultural exchange teacher program with Cordell Hull and an Internship Program with both Amity International and Columbia University, to name a few, Mrs. Zaglauer is a strong proponent of bilingual education. In 2009, Claire Zaglauer was issued a Bourse de Stage Pedagogique de Courte Duree in the summer of 2009 by the French Department of Education. This was a six-week program at the University of Strasbourg for teachers involved in French and bilingualism. During this program, Ms. Zaglauer was able to connect with French educators and University contacts in the language department which proved invaluable in the future. With a heavy focus on language acquisition and a shift into school leadership, a position with a public bilingual French school as an administrator was a natural next step. Claire Zaglauer used her contacts in bilingual education and international education to add several key programs to her new school. These included intercultural exchange programs, internship programs and other extracurricular programs which helped to further enrich the school.
