Monia Abou Ghali is an aspiring political and cultural journalist. Born and raised in Cairo, Egypt, she has an innate and deep understanding of Middle Eastern culture and foreign policy approach. Monia Abou Ghali began her undergraduate studies at the American University in Cairo, Egypt, and later went to Monmouth University where she graduated with a Cum Laude B.A in Political Science with a concentration in International Relations and Information Technology. Monia Abou Ghali is a member of the MU Dialogue Project, the Political Science Honor Society, and MU Debate Hawks. Monia Abou Ghali's areas of interest include women's rights post Arab Spring uprising, U.S-Middle Eastern foreign policy, and unconventional environmental threats in the Arab region.
Monia Abou Ghali is a Participant Programs Coordinator at NDU's strategic studies center focusing on the Near East and South Asia. Monia Abou Ghali is involved in planning and executing seminars that host 30-40 participants from the Middle East and South Asian regions. The seminars focus on security threats and building and sustaining relationships that aid cooperation and communication between countries in the region.
Monia Abou Ghali is a member of the Monmouth Dialogue Project. Monia Abou Ghali is also a member of the political Science Honor Society (Pi Sigma Alpha). She was a member of the Debate Hawks and the Model United Nations club. At the American University in Cairo, Monia was an organizer in the Volunteers-in-Action group where she helped form small home businesses for families in impoverished areas in Cairo. As part of the fundraising and logistics division of the Anti-cancer team, Monia Abou Ghali helped organize fundraising events and trips to the Cairo Cancer hospital. There, the team communicated with the cancer patients to hear their requests, especially children, and monitored the hospital care.
In the future, Monia Abou Ghali is hoping to get involved in the International Development sector, where she would be able to work closely with groups that face disparities. She is particularly interested in the education of girls as a method of empowerment and is planning on attaining a masters degree in Education, Business Administration, and International Development.
