Assistant Professor There are so many cons for this place. There is no respect here for assistant professors especially women. You are forced to do a lot of committee work which will not help your career or your students. They will even advise you to cancel your classes to sit in long meetings that have nothing to do with college classes. They will not pay you as promised, this is more of a CUNY wide issue but due to those who work in LaGuardia's many offices being unwilling to do their job, answer phone calls and emails there will be a lot of mistakes with your pay. I still have not received my last pay from them and it has been months since I left. There will be no one who will help or assist you when these problems go wrong because everyone is overworked and in meetings all the time. Students are treated badly and in turn will treat you badly because the system is full of people who are overworked and because they are friends with someone important, they will never be admonished. They run this place as if it is a high intensive research university but give the faculty no time to focus on their research and they try to push you to only do research in pedagogy, and topics they want. All offices are not working properly including the print center and places where you rely on in order to get your class prep completed. They promise pay for work and then they will not pay you even if you have a contract in writing. Others working here will not help because they either have tenure and feel like that's all they needed from their life at LaGcc or they want tenure and are too afraid to speak up and stand together.
