Fish Rots From the Head Down
Where to begin? *The CEO makes every decision. Including hiring. And firing. If you want to do something, he's got to approve it. And if he doesn't like it, you aren't doing it. *Which brings me to my next point: The CEO plays favorites. And if you aren't one of them, you will never go anywhere at this company. *Nepotism plays a role in hiring. *Diversity, equity, and inclusion will be paid lip service, and you'll hear lots of talk about how the pictures on the website reflect the diversity of the community we serve. This is correct, but only because the staff is micromanaged to get those photos up so we look like we care about DEI. *The CEO and PR are deathly afraid of hearing bad feedback on social media. But they won't do anything about it; they'll just berate their social and web teams for letting it happen. See: Disastrous "All lives matter" post that they forced their digital team to put up, then take down three hours later. *If you're a woman with kids, your priorities will constantly be questioned despite your being told at hire how family-friendly this company is. Turns out, they're much friendlier to men with families. *Recent layoffs were not, as stated, purely financial. They were personal, they were dirty, and they were mean. They also made a new hire into one devastated department two days after laying off half the staff, just as a parting slap
