Low pay for both hourly and salaried employees The latter are expected to be grateful to have a "cool" job and never question that they won't ever have a chance for a raise, promotion or annual review. The out-of-touch owner/founder/CEO comes from money and uses this funded-by-Daddy operation to help pay for his other, fledgling ventures. Often, he makes "business decisions" while not in a lucid state of mind and has even fired people with no prior warning about work performance or whatever reason is behind the dismissal. When I worked there, he was too cheap to have direct deposit and often just "didn't get around to signing paychecks." I remember forcing lunch money loans on co-workers who couldn't go eat since they were counting on getting their check on time and then did not get it.
