Accepting job offer here was a mistake Lifeless work environment with grumpy and stressed coworkers. Health insurance is terrible. High in-network deductible makes it hard to get good health care. No transparency in company from upper management. Poor work/life balance - management very passive aggressive towards employees who leave at a normal hour. Engineers easily hit 50 hours a week. Tech team in NY is underwhelming. No one is passionate about software engineering and it's clear that they only do it for money. I personally aspire to work with other motivated engineers. If working with people who are not inspired by what they do is your thing then this is the place for you. The first day on the job I already felt like I had made a mistake accepting the offer. There was no training process whatsoever. I was given a laptop and essentially left alone. Eventually I figured everything out on my own but it was a grueling process and the senior engineers viewed me as a burden. Company HQ are in London and the NY office (where I worked) is a strange place where the company half-invests. The office is almost always empty other than the tech team. There is no mentorship culture or emphasis on growth. It's just very "do what you are told and that's it." Three months after hiring me, the company laid off it's entire front end tech team in NY. They then laid off several other employees on the sales team. Algomi is a sinking ship with no growth opportunities, no culture, and is managed by people that are extremely stressed out. Although getting laid off three months into my job was a bummer, it was also a blessing because working at Algomi was miserable. I learned a valuable lesson while working there to never lower my standards for a decent paycheck again. I would not recommend working here to anyone that aspires to achieve great things in their career. At most, Algomi is a place where people who do not aspire to anything go to work.
