Senior management creates a toxic culture Great employees unfortunately will have a hard time thriving and feeling appreciated in the toxic work environment created by the super micro-managing, non-empathetic, non-trustworthy tiger-mom chief executive. If she wants a Facebook culture, she must let managers manage their own employees. Zuckerburg doesn't crazily and impatiently micro-manage everyone. He is not a bull in a china shop (no pun intended), who thinks nothing of interrupting employees on their breaks or at lunch which I do not think is legal unless you pay me for an interrupted lunch hour. No one will stick around for long once they acquire the knowledge they need to jump ship to a company with a more normal and healthy work culture. And it is even tough to acquire knowledge in a firm that does not value formal training or provide management development resources. Until her micro-managing stops and she stops treating people inconsistently, loving them one week then hating them the next, or having to always have someone on her "hit" list (what we call the flavor of the week), there will always be a revolving-door. This is dangerous because the firm's most valuable asset is its people. Tiger parents are known for pushing and pressuring their children to attaining high levels of academic achievement or success in high-status extracurricular activities using authoritarian parenting methods, no matter the emotional cost. This approach will not succeed in an American law firm if it wants to thrive, grow, and retain its valuable employees. If it wants to alienate its employees and make them resign one by one, then the firm is on the right track to drive every millennial or gen x, y, z and a - w out the door in a steady-stream fashion. The above will not foster employee loyalty or firm success. Poor morale is guaranteed to reduce profits if employees don't care. And more-tiger-momming will just make things worse, not better.
