You'd rather be unemployed
As other reviewers have mentioned, the founder of the agency pressured the poor current employees to post positive reviews to discredit the truthful one star reviews (?it doesn?t have to be 5 stars, it can be 4,? she said). She is desperate to get the ratings up, and couldn?t have made that anymore obvious if she had wanted to. Oddly enough, I was compelled to write this review after watching the infamous Fyre Festival documentary. Watching that documentary was so triggering for me, because working at Jane Smith was basically living through Fyre Festival-like disasters on a daily basis. The agency owner is the female equivalent of Billy McFarland; she?s a fraud who made her way up by continuously manipulating and lying to people. Before working at Jane Smith, I had never felt this demeaned, disrespected and burnt out, and I had worked at multiple agencies and startups in New York prior to this. Using statements like ?as with most agencies? and ?as a startup? to normalize and minimize the bullying behavior of the founder, in my opinion makes you complicit in the cycle of abuse. Especially in this current social climate, making pathetic excuses for an unethical and abusive company culture is completely tone deaf and unacceptable especially coming from a ?woman owned & operated? company. Being here for more than a couple of months completely warps your sense of what is normal or acceptable. The scariest part is that after a while, you get somewhat desensitized to being treated like a piece of garbage on a daily basis, it becomes the new normal. It is a perfect example of what the Stockholm syndrome does to people. It took me weeks, if not months, to recover from the constant state of stress and anxiety this job had caused me. It?s not worth working with such an unseasoned, untalented and abusive creative director when there are a ton of much better agencies with way more lucrative projects. There is no depth or integrity to the work coming from this agency due to her very surface level thinking and lack of creative talent. Lastly, I also have to mention the senior management of this company. They are not only clueless and incapable, but in general extremely unpleasant to work with. They happily play the roles of enablers, in order to hold on to their grossly overpaid jobs.
