How to make a short essay: example, how to get started, and guidance
One of the topics most assigned by the prof of letters is undoubtedly the short essay, elaborated by the complex outline that sooner or later happens to all students to face. Do you have to do a short essay but do not know where to start? Let's understand together, thanks to the guided example, the structure and development of the short essay. Correctly following all the steps to write a short essay will allow you to do in class assignments

WHAT IS A SHORT ESSAY? The short essay - so defined because it is less extensive than a normal essay - is a written text that students must develop using a series of documents. Starting from these, from the information and indications they will find here, they are asked to "support a thesis", that is, to express an opinion on an issue, defend an idea by arguing it logically and coherently, giving information and at the same time motivating the position they take.

THE SHORT ESSAY IN GENERAL There are different types of short essays, including those that you will find below and which were previously part of the first test of the baccalaureate:

  • How to make a short essay of artistic-literary field In this type you are asked to address a topic through the analysis of literary, artistic and sometimes musical works. It is ideal if you are not inclined to too rigorous and scientific arguments because it leaves ample room to describe your point of view.

  • How to write a short essay in the historical-political field
The short essay of historical-political field has as its track texts that lead the candidate to reflect and develop a thought about historical events and political issues. In the historical essay is important to make a distinction between what are the sources contemporary to the event of which we speak and the various interpretations of that event have been given throughout writing websites (historiographic interpretations).

  • How to write a short essay in the socio-economic field
The documents that are made available to students in this type of short essay concern topics that address social and economic issues. The apparent simplicity of the theme, often very much linked to current events, should not, however, be misleading: the point of view to be adopted should be chosen carefully and the approach should always be fresh and personal.

  • How to write a short technical-scientific essay
In the technical-scientific tracks, students are asked to argue a thesis starting from texts that deal with technological issues, scientific discoveries, technical disciplines. This type of paper is used to demonstrate, solve, clarify or explain something. For this reason, it is useful to leverage the topics of which you already have some technical knowledge, to avoid making statements of which you are not certain.

  • The choice
What type of outline is best suited to your preparation and grabmyessay review? When choosing an outline, you must be sure that you know how to respond to what the "delivery" asks, that is, the requests that are provided with the documents.

  • Sources
The first step to do well a short essay is to read carefully all the material contained in the track given by the professor. It can be newspaper articles, excerpts from works of different kinds, numerical data, graphs, tables, photos, etc.. The goal is to have a clear idea of what the various sources that you will be citing in your paper support.
Identify the order in which they should be presented and the purpose for which they should be used. Each time you cite a source to support your thesis, you should explain why you chose it and the reasoning behind it.
We recommend that you highlight key words, underline important passages, compare the available texts, and make notes in the margin if you need to. And remember, you don't have to cite every document the outline makes available to you.

  • Style and length
Before you begin writing, you must ask yourself who your intended audience is. Since it is a critical and argumentative essay, you must imagine that the ideal reader of your short essay is an expert on the topic you are going to develop.
Maintain formal language and avoid the first person (e.g. "I think that...", "in my opinion...").
Prefer an impersonal form (e.g. "It is thought that...", "It is widely held that..."). If you know them, you can also include technical terms that are related to the topic at hand.
Do not dwell more than necessary on the explanation and statement of the topic just to lengthen the broth. Digressions are not helpful to your work which, in the end, should not exceed 4-5 columns of protocol sheet. Rather, give ample space to your thesis, enriching it with references and citations that can support it, making sure that it emerges clearly.
