Dr. James McInnis is a seasoned practitioner in both family and emergency medicine, with a decade of specialization in emergency and trauma care and sixteen years as a family doctor. Additionally, he fulfills roles as a committed father to four, an enthusiastic athlete, a lieutenant (N) in the Canadian Armed Forces, a Navy reservist, and a dedicated volunteer.
Raised in Charlottetown, Prince Edward Island, Canada, and the eldest of four children, he has been actively involved in sports since childhood. He participated in hockey and baseball at competitive levels, even catching the eye of the Boston Red Sox as a potential pitcher. He also played Junior A hockey. As he grew older, his passion for sports expanded to include weightlifting.
His proactive and industrious nature was apparent from a young age. He started delivering newspapers at ten and was already working full-time at McDonald’s by thirteen.
His academic path is notable for its breadth and depth. He obtained his BBA from Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax, Nova Scotia in 1992. After traveling in the United States, he pursued a BSc (Honors) in Biochemistry and Genetics at Dalhousie University, graduating in 1997. He furthered his education with an Epidemiology Certification from Dalhousie University in 2002, entered medical school there in 2000, and emerged with a Doctor of Medicine degree in 2004. He completed his internship and specialized in Emergency and Family Medicine at McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario.
