Steven Joseph Wolfe, a retired entrepreneur and real estate investor, embarked on his diverse investment journey in 2013. His portfolio spans a variety of projects, including a 118-unit single-family rental community, five vacation rentals, multiple new construction apartment complexes, two Marriott hotels, and a medical biotechnology startup. In 2021, he expanded his investment focus to include senior living, launching a facility in Durango, Colorado, which he and his partners successfully sold in spring 2024. Since then, they have developed seven additional senior living projects across Minnesota and Iowa.
Steven’s extensive career background includes expertise in restaurant and franchise operations, real estate development encompassing apartments and hotels, and, more recently, the management of senior living facilities specializing in assisted living and memory care.
His significant career phase began in 2000 when he became a franchisee of Panera Bread, managing six locations across southern Minnesota and western Wisconsin. During his nearly two-decade tenure, he built a successful operation that employed over 350 staff. He was consistently ranked among the top five in national customer satisfaction surveys among all Panera franchisees. He sold the franchise in 2019.
He was instrumental in developing a robust management team, overseeing the general managers for each location and a district manager who helped with regional operations. His hands-on leadership approach ensured high standards of service and operational excellence.
Steven’s marketing strategies effectively balanced maintaining Panera Bread’s national brand while also adapting to local market demands, significantly contributing to sustained business growth and expansion.
Before embarking on his franchising journey, Steven was an independent insurance broker specializing in supplemental insurance sales in the Chicago suburbs. He also gained early sales experience selling educational and Christian books during his college summers, which sharpened his sales skills and built his resilience.
Steven grew up as the sixth of ten children in Davenport, Iowa. He graduated from Assumption High School in 1988 and earned his Bachelor of Science in Business Management with a minor in History from St. John’s University in 1992.
A committed community supporter, Steven has been actively involved in volunteering and donating to local nonprofits and food banks, with his franchises contributing over $300,000 annually in bakery products to community organizations.
In his time, he enjoys cycling, attending sporting events, and exploring parks and cultural events with his family and friends.
