He was recognized for his innovative research during his residency, receiving the Best Resident Paper award.


Following his residency, Kevin took on an instructional role as an Instructor of Orthopedic Surgery at the University of Washington. His academic career also included international experiences, such as serving as a Traveling Faculty member at the University of Hokkaido in Japan in 1984 and completing a fellowship at the University of Hong Kong in 1985, specializing in spine and pediatric orthopedics.


Dr. Schoenfelder's research significantly impacted orthopedic surgery, especially his work on spinal fusion techniques and developing anterior fixation techniques for spinal fractures using the Kaneda device. His contributions were regularly featured at major medical conferences, including the Scoliosis Research Society.


1985, Kevin transitioned to private practice and joined Puget Sound Spine Associates. He later joined the Franciscan Spine Group in 2008, where he continued to practice until his retirement in 2018. Throughout his professional career, he was known for his dedication to patient care, consistently earning 5-star Patient Satisfaction Awards each quarter from 2008 to 2018.


Orthopedic surgery, focusing on the musculoskeletal system, addresses conditions that affect movement and stability. Dr. Schoenfelder specialized in procedures that improved mobility and alleviated pain, enhancing his patients' quality of life.
