Dr. Jill Abram, a board-certified psychiatrist from Indiana, brings 38 years of dedicated service to the field of psychiatry, specializing in child and adolescent care. Her career is distinguished by her commitment to healing and restoring the mental health of communities, families, and individuals through direct care and collaboration with other health professionals.
Throughout her professional journey, she has left a significant mark on numerous lives. Her career began at the Homeless Mobile Team at Midtown Mental Center in Indianapolis, where she worked from 1988 to 1990. She later took on the role of psychiatrist for the Child Team for Mental Health in Anderson, Indiana, holding this position for six years until 1996.
In 1996, she ventured into private practice in Fishers, Indiana, and also served as the psychiatrist at Pleasant Run Children's Home, a historic orphanage in Indianapolis. Her private practice extended back to Anderson, Indiana, where she practiced for nearly seven years. During this time, she also served as the adolescent psychiatrist at Northeast Juvenile Correctional Facility and Pendleton Juvenile Correctional Facility, and she provided psychiatric consulting at Fortville Christian Youth Home.
Her expansive career also includes roles in private practice in Indianapolis, where she was a psychiatrist at the Counseling Center at Christian Theological Seminary and the Family Counseling Center. She was a consulting adolescent psychiatrist at Richmond State Hospital and collaborated with the Medical Staff at Community Hospitals of Indianapolis.
Her influence reached beyond Indiana, serving as a consultant at the Boys and Girls Home of Alaska and as part of the medical team at North Star Hospital in Anchorage. She also played a crucial role in initiating psychiatric telemedicine services through the Four County Counseling Center in Peru, Kokomo, and Logansport, Indiana.
Her collaborative efforts extended to consulting with the Department of Mental Health to develop coordinated care systems with the Department of Education and the Department of Families and Children, and she worked with the Marion County Juvenile Detention Center. She participated in the Conscience Development Research and Study Group and a Trauma and Dissociation study group.
Academically, she excelled from the beginning, graduating Summa Cum Laude from Hanover College with a B.A. in Chemistry and minors in Biology and Psychology, receiving the "Long Citation for Outstanding Senior Woman." Her medical education at Indiana University School of Medicine included a year of research, where she earned the Academic Medicine Achievement Award. Her residencies were completed at St. Francis Hospital and Indiana University School of Medicine, culminating in a fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry. Her scholarly contributions were recognized with the Golden Apple Award in 1990. Before retiring, she held licenses in Indiana and Alaska and was certified by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. Dr. Jill Abram has been a steadfast member of the American Academy of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry since June 1991.
