Sean Mannix is a law enforcement professional with a distinguished 36-year career in public safety. He has held leadership roles, including Assistant Chief of Police in Austin and Chief of Police in Cedar Park, Texas. Throughout his career, he dedicated himself to improving policing methods, advancing officer training programs, and fostering strong relationships with the community. After retiring in 2020, he continued to serve the public as the Statewide Traffic Incident Management Coordinator for the Texas Department of Transportation.
Born in California, Sean was one of five children. Inspired by his father, a law enforcement officer, he developed an early interest in pursuing a career in policing. At 18, he joined the U.S. Marine Corps Reserve, where he honed his leadership skills and built a strong work ethic that would guide his career in law enforcement.
Sean holds a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice from Excelsior College, where he graduated with honors, and a Master of Arts in Homeland Security from American Military University. His education also includes completing the FBI National Academy, the Leadership Command College, the Senior Management Institute for Police, and the LAPD West Point Leadership Program.
After his Marine Corps service, Sean began his law enforcement career in Alameda, California, where, at age 20, he became the youngest officer at the Alameda Police Department. In his early years, he gained experience in various patrol and emergency response tasks.
In 1993, Sean moved to Austin, Texas, and joined the Austin Police Department, where he spent the next 20 years of his career. He quickly rose through the ranks, starting as a patrol officer and becoming Assistant Chief. His achievements included reducing crime through the COMPSTAT model, enhancing community outreach, and fostering partnerships with federal agencies like the FBI and DEA. Sean worked in various divisions, including Organized Crime and Central Bureau, focusing on crime prevention and public safety.
In 2013, Sean took on the role of Chief of Police for the Cedar Park Police Department. During his tenure, he focused on improving officer training programs, implementing community policing strategies, and fostering positive relationships between officers and the public. He introduced innovative programs such as de-escalation training and body-worn cameras, helping to create a positive and diverse workplace for the department.
After retiring in 2020, he remained active in law enforcement, serving as a board member for Sigma Tactical Wellness, an organization that supports the health of first responders. He also continues his involvement with Williamson County Crime Stoppers, a nonprofit dedicated to solving crimes and enhancing public safety.
Outside of his professional life, Retired Chief Sean Mannix is a devoted family man. He has been married to his wife, Eileen, for many years, and they have four daughters. He enjoys aviation, fishing, and outdoor activities, which help him relax and unwind. Sean is passionate about reading and learning, believing that ongoing education is key to staying sharp in both personal and professional life.
