Chief Miguel Iglesias, a retired NYPD Chief, dedicated over 30 years to law enforcement in New York City, building a legacy of service, integrity, and leadership. Born in Panama City, Panama, he joined the NYPD in 1991, driven by a deep commitment to his community and the desire to improve public safety. Throughout his distinguished career, he rose through the ranks, taking on critical roles within the department. In 2001, after being promoted to Sergeant, Miguel recognized the need for higher education to continue advancing within the department. He earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Organizational Management from St. Joseph's College in 2005 and a Master’s in Human Resources Management from Seton Hall University in 2008. These educational accomplishments helped him develop the skills necessary for leadership, combining his on-the-ground experience with academic knowledge. Throughout his career, he was known for his dedication to upholding the law while fostering positive communication with officers and the community.
Growing up in Brooklyn, Miguel witnessed the challenges posed by rising crime and safety concerns. Motivated to make a difference, he joined the NYPD in 1991. His leadership qualities quickly became apparent, leading to his promotion to Lieutenant in 2005. As a Lieutenant, he oversaw operations and worked closely with his team to address local crime concerns. His promotion to Captain in 2010 saw him take on even more responsibility, managing operations in high-crime areas like the 73rd Precinct, where his leadership significantly reduced.
Chief Miguel Iglesias NYPD's career reached its pinnacle in 2022 when he was appointed Chief of Internal Affairs. In this role, he ensured that the department maintained the highest standards of ethics and transparency, working to build more substantial public confidence in the NYPD. After retiring in 2025, he left behind a profound legacy of leadership and a steadfast commitment to the values of public service and integrity.
