Born in 1957, the youngest among five siblings, to a warrior father, the late Shri Rai, who had fought for India in World War II as well as with China and Pakistan in two wars. His mother was a farmer, she was his first and best teacher, Bobby was quite a mischievous and curious child. However, being the youngest, he was often ridiculed by cousins and sometimes by his siblings that he will never succeed without the education. As a young man Bobby chose the local Gurudwara to learn to read and write. He has no formal education except for a day in kindergarten. Being an exceptional child Bobby left home at the age of 11 to find his direction in life. He went from Punjab, Delhi, Moradabad, Mumbai and travelled the rest of the country for 6 years, washing dishes, polishing shoes, cleaning tables and other miniscule jobs. Bobby said he doesn’t believe in begging but demanding the best out of you to succeed.

“An obstacle gives you an experience of overcoming problems”

As he realizes today looking back at his life leaving your parent’s house without their knowledge is one of the biggest mistakes a child can do to their parents. During his journey he endured many hardships with no regrets. This experience gave him the greatest lessons of life; how to live independently and not dependently which made him the person he is today. Someone with love, respect and care for others.

“Life is very beautiful if we live by simplicity not by complicity”

At 17 he returned home and this time with his parents blessing he started his second journey in Greece. While he had his 30 day Euro Train Pass he not only traveled, to earn money as he travelled he did many odd jobs but like polishing shoes help support his travels and stay in Greece. Bobby found work with the help of a friend with a Greek shipping company. Two years later on his way back to Greece from America, his luggage was stolen at the LA airport, and thus he could not take the return flight. To feed himself, he found a job in a Greek restaurant Silver Star Manhattan as a dishwasher and a busboy. At this time, one of his neighbors told him that the best way to have his voice heard to be able to solve his problems was to enter politics. While his friends where enjoying the night life Bobby was working with Republican Volunteers in 1983. His practical knowledge and foresightedness impressed the Volunteers so much so that the very next year, 1984, he was appointed the Chairman of the Board of Directors there.

“I kept taking opportunities, regardless of my knowledge”

He considers 1984 his best year when he started his first business, a construction company with no knowledge of running a business let alone construction. He was able to become successful because Bobby believes yes we can and he practiced that since he was 5 years old he believes you don’t know what you can do till you try. As you heard President Obama say during his campaign “yes we can” maybe he borrowed that line from Bobby. He quickly learned the nuances of business; and he started tasting success and ventured into electronic voting machines, publishing, environment, etc.

With his thirst for knowledge, learning the best out of all the hardships, he was always looking for new opportunities, never shying away from challenges. How else could a person who never had tasted alcohol also win an award for owning the best micro-brewery producing 23 varieties of beer?!
Dr. Bobby K. Kalotee believes that life itself is politics starting disagreement with our parents and siblings. Even love is not immune to politics.
No wonder that he started his political career early in life. Yet, he did not seek political positions, except contesting once as lieutenant governor State of New York. He says he wanted to serve without any strings attached to elected positions, which may satisfy our ego only. Mr. Kalotee says “I prefer to be a king maker than a king”.
Bobby is against the idea of one getting elected as an Indian in America, everyone have the right to run for office as an American, that’s who we are. He or she should stand for election as an American to serve all not only to the origin of your ancestry.
When asked the chances of an Indian getting elected as President of the US, he notes, “We will always have an American as President. Hopefully one day the President will be from Indian descent just as the last President Obama came from African-Irish descent. That is what makes, and will continue to make, America a great nation.”
Kalotee says he became Republican because an acquaintance took him to a meeting of the Republican Party in the early 80s. If it was a meeting of the Democratic Party he would have joined that. But once he studied the parties and their philosophies, he became an ardent Republican. “We Indians believe the same things that the party believes. We are even more conservative than them. Republicans are not against immigration, but against illegal immigration. Will we allow illegal immigration in India,” he asks.
In 1985 he became the chairman of the Republican Volunteers Club and worked in the re-election campaign of President Ronald Reagan. In the 1988 election campaign for George Bush, Sr. he was a national co-chair coordinating the activities of all the ethnic groups.
In 1994 he met the chairman of the Nassau County Republican Party, Joseph Mondelo, who subsequently appointed him as vice chairman of the Nassau County Republican Party, a position he held through 2004. I learned a lot from the chairman Mondelo about the politics who is a good friend and great leader. Bobby said “I always admired a distinguish leaders in politics religions, as Rudy Giuliani Former Mayor of New York City, President Ronald Regan, Bill Clinton, George Bush and Donald Trump. As I respected and admired Nelson Mandela, Mahatma Gandhi, Martin Luther King, along with Pope Saint John Paul II, Pope Francis and Saint Mother Teresa. It is very rare to meet one President or Prime Minister, and I had an honor to meet over 160 heads of States, it is humbling experience.

Bobby changed his party affiliation from Republican Party to New York State Independence Party due to his friendship with State chairman. As Bobby became a chairman of Independence Party of Nassau County 2006 in New York.
In 2008 he was unopposed in his re-election as chairman of state executive committee of the Independence Party. In the same year he was elected as national executive director of two different parties, The Independence Party of America and the Reform Party of USA. “Nobody has ever attained this distinction,” he says proudly.
The Reform Party was founded by H Ross Perot in 1996-1997, who contested in the Presidential election and won 10 million votes.
Later he was the national chairman of the Reform Party and All American Political Party.
In 2012 Kalotee and other political activists joined together to form a new political party called the Sapient Party (the party of wisdom) and he contested as New York’s lieutenant governor on the Sapient Party banner.
A third party has much relevance, he notes. “There are so many people who are frustrated with the two major parties. If you look at the voter registration alone, there are millions of unaffiliated who are unhappy with them.”
“I can’t write accurately, I can criticize perfectly”

After all these years of life experience now Bobby can call himself Dr. Bobby K. Kalotee after receiving two honorary degrees from NYIT for Dr. Of Science and Spartan Health Sciences University for Dr. Of Philosophy. Today he serves as a chairman of Spartan advisory board.

Today he can also claim to be an accomplished author and publisher with two books, Ireland Today and India Today, being well-accepted. He is proud to say, “Most people have had 40 to 60 teachers in the course of their education, and he had the world as his teacher,” from which he learned to understand, analyze, and criticize. However, he is quick to credit all his success to his parents and the society that he grew up in.

“Health is the best gift”

Bobby became an advocate for woman rights and empowerment. He says he has seen too many women getting abused by society while growing up. Even as a successful entrepreneur he noticed people abusing women in various ways, which altogether made him strong and staunch against any violence against women.

It was his selfless services to the community that brought him to head Toys for Tots an organization that delivers toys to those whose parents cannot afford them and Friends for Good Health, which provides support of leading physicians to those who are in dire need of preventive medical care. Mr. Kalotee travels across the world with many doctors to offer treatments. As Bobby often says “there is no better gift that you can give to humanity than good health”.

“My beautiful wife and children define my happiness”

As great a year 1984 was for business it was equally a great year in his personal life when he meet his very beautiful soul mate and as of today after 33 years of knowing her and 30 years of marriage they are still in love. He considers it a blessing and fulfilment of his life when he meet his Irish-American partner who brought tranquillity to his life. She also taught him tolerance and to read and write in English. Bobby proudly says she is his best friend. What more could he have asked for than marrying his teacher and best friend! Today Bobby and his wife have five beautiful grownup children, Kyle in finance, Kevin in law enforcement, Dervla graduated this year with a masters degree on the environment and global warming, Avril finished college in biology and is an environmentalist saving the tree and plants and Shane is in his final year of college. The children have been raised with the culture and traditions of Ireland, India and the USA.

Though, his hobby is to help people as much as he can and that’s what he does in leisure as well, Kalotee also loves playing Golf.
Mr. Kalotee is also a Major in the New York State Guard, Division of Military and Naval Affairs and a General in the United States Disaster Relief Command. Mr. Kalotee has received an Honorary Doctoral Degree (Dr. of Science) from NY Institute of Technology. Mr. Kalotee has been appointed as a special liaison for South Asia by the President of Malawi, Honorable Joyce Hilda Banda. Most recently Bobby was personally invited to the inauguration for the president of El Salvador and had the opportunity to meet most of the Central American heads of states whose population is the fastest growing in the state of New York and the United States..

As the International Chairman of Friends for Good Health, Mr. Kalotee has taken annual trips to multiple countries with a group of doctors to treat his “brothers and sisters” of the world.

He has made many trips to his adopted home of El Salvador which is his favorite place to visit and treat those that cannot afford treatment. Mr. Kalotee organizes medical camps and brings medicine and doctors to several areas. When the floods hit El Salvador he was there delivering food and other supplies to the ravaged people. Bobby has sent thousands of toys to El Salvador, in Sonsonate, San Salvador, San Miguel and many other places..

In America, he is always helping citizens in need, to fight for their rights. Mr. Kalotee organizes medical camps and brings medicine and doctors where needed Mr. Kalotee believes the best gift that you can give is unconditional help in providing education and good health to another human being, for a better today and tomorrow.Mr. Kalotee has taken annual trips to multiple countries with a group of doctors to treat his “brothers and sisters” of the world
As the co-chair of Toys for Tots sponsored by the U. S. Marines, Mr. Kalotee was joined by Major Chuck Kilbride and Chairman Richard Grasso to ring the closing bell at the New York Stock Exchange.

Mr. Kalotee was a guest speaker several times at both the United Nations assembly hall in New York and in Geneva speaking on the issues of education and health to the world community. Bobby’s life experiences of responsibility and understanding the importance for a better tomorrow was evident in his message. The warm response he received from the attending world leaders was very humbling.
