Paul M. Weiss is a founding member of Complex Litigation Group LLC, a small but very influential law firm now based out of Highland Park, Illinois. Though the group is composed of just six lawyers, they frequently take on a variety of cases for clients throughout the country in all federal and state courts. These clients include local governments, small businesses, consumers and many others all across the United States.

Weiss himself practiced in many different districts and courts across the country. He is admitted to practice in the state of Illinois, including the United States District Courts for the Southern and Northern Districts of Illinois. He is also a member of the Northern District Trial Bar and has admittance to practice in the Eastern District of Michigan as well. In addition, he has been granted pro hac vice admission to practice in a variety of state and federal courts. These include the courts of Florida, New Jersey, New Mexico, Idaho, and California, among others.

Beyond his work with Complex Litigation, Paul M. Weiss is also the Fundraising Director for the global nonprofit group Worldwide Mental Health Initiatives, NFP. In this capacity, Weiss is committed to assisting those individuals around the world who struggle with mental illness. He is also an Executive Committee Member of the National Trial Lawyer’s Class Action Trial Lawyers, and a member of Gardeners of the North Shore. In his free time, he enjoys photography, snorkeling, and gardening.
Paul has a long career history of notable accomplishments and recognition stretching from his university studies up to his present day work with Complex Litigation Group. In the realm of law and beyond, Weiss shows himself to be a dedicated professional at all tasks to which he applies himself.

Education

Paul M. Weiss received both his undergraduate degree and his law degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana. For five straight semesters during his undergraduate studies, he had the distinction of being included on the Dean’s List. When he graduated with his Bachelor of Science degree, he did so with honors.

Weiss then enrolled in Indiana University Bloomington School of Law. Here he became a member of the Indiana Law Journal, an honors academic legal journal founded in 1925 that was published every quarter by IU students. He was also honored to be inducted in the Order of the Coif, an honorary scholastic society dedicated to encouraging academic excellence in legal students throughout the United States. During law school Paul received the AmJur award for highest grades in his Torts and Advanced Torts classes.

In 1993, Paul M. graduated from Indiana University yet again. This time he graduated magna cum laude, earning his Juris Doctorate degree from Indiana University-Bloomington’s Law School.

Prior to his co-founding of Complex Litigation Group, Weiss practiced law for four years in a law office in Seattle, WA. At the time, the firm was known as Hagens & Berman. Paul worked here as an associate from 1995 to 1999. In this position, he focused exclusively on plaintiff consumer class actions.

Then, in 1999, Paul M. Weiss moved to Chicago, IL, and helped establish Complex Litigation Group’s predecessor firm with the goal of helping clients vindicate their rights across through class action lawsuits. These clients have included consumers, medical practitioners and county and local governments, from all over the United States.

After more than a decade of practice, Weiss and Complex Litigation Group have been able to obtain major recoveries on behalf of their clients, totaling more than $500 million. These recoveries have been made in federal and state courts throughout the nation, including antitrust actions, cases of consumer fraud, and cases of product liability, among others.

Recognition and Achievements

Throughout his career, the professional expertise of Paul has not gone unnoticed. He and his work have received much recognition throughout the years, including coverage in several legal journals. The National Law Journal, for example, has featured him in an article concerning class actions in Illinois that ran in their June 12, 2003 edition. He was also recognized in April of 2003 by the Chicago Lawyer in an article entitled “Class Actions: The Battle Heats Up.” Weiss initially gained press when he brought suit against Ticketmaster for their service charges. This class action was featured in the Chicago Reader in a June 17, 1994 “Hitsville” feature story titled, “He’s a Fan, He’s a Lawyer, He’s Suing.”

Furthermore, Weiss has been honored as a guest lecturer at both the Loyola University of Chicago School of Law, Chicago-Kent College School of Law and Chicago Bar Association. His lecture topics have included such issues as environmental contamination suits, consumer class action lawsuits and the “future” of class actions.

In addition, Paul M. Weiss’s opinions have seen publication in a vast variety of legal cases. The following are just a few samples of these publications:

Organization Memberships

On top of his excellent legal work, Paul also claims membership in a range of notable organizations that range from personal to professional to philanthropic.

For instance, Paul M. Weiss is a member of the Executive Committee for the National Trial Lawyer’s Class Action Trial Lawyers. Each member of this networked group of attorneys specializes in handling class action litigation. By drawing on the strong training of this specialty organization as well as their networking and educational resources, members are better able to utilize benefits that they would have been unable to find on their own.

Weiss also volunteers with Worldwide Mental Health Initiatives, NFP as their Fundraising Director. This global charity is headquartered in Chicago, IL, and works closely with lawmakers, heads of state, the World Health Organization, and the United Nations. The goal of Weiss and everyone else in this organization is to bring the resources necessary to properly addressing mental health issues to communities all over the world.
Paul has already done well in establishing himself as an expert and influential lawyer in the fields of multidistrict complex litigation and class action lawsuits. Now he plans to continue building on this solid and impressive foundation, lending his professional skills and expertise to consumers, small businesses, and local governments in important and influential cases across the country.

Since helping to found the company in 1999, Paul M. has kept Complex Litigation changing and adapting with the times. By keeping their finger firmly on the pulse of legislative action and sentiment in the United States, Complex Litigation Group has been able to evolve in line with the needs of its clients. Going forward, Weiss will remain on the lookout for major shifts and changes in the legislative world and help to steer Complex Litigation along the most effective and successful course.

Paul M. Weiss also continues in his work with organizations such as Worldwide Mental Health Initiatives, NFP. As a humanitarian group with a global focus, this organization’s work is never done. However, by helping the group raise the funds that it needs for its initiatives and activities, Weiss can better enable them to spread their good work further and conduct it more effectively.

The WMHI’s most immediate plans are to begin introducing training seminars on mental health to communities all across the world, from the inner city districts of Chicago to the rural Native American populations of Montana to the People’s Republic of Bangladesh. According to Paul M. Weiss of Illinois, these seminars will be designed to focus on the training of diagnosing, treating, and caring for individuals that suffer from some form of mental illness.
