Intelius is among the next generation of private eyes. The Web-based company can find just about anything about anybody -- for a price -- by using public databases and commercial records. Intelius offers more intelligence services such as criminal background checks, people searches, a reverse cell phone directory, and property and neighborhood reports. Its IDWatch product is an identity theft protection system that monitors credit activity, while its TrueRep product helps customers manage their online reputation. Most customers purchase Intelius' services on a pay-per-use basis. The company also sells subscriptions. Intelius was founded in 2003. It withdrew IPO plans in 2010.
