WNC & Associates' portfolio is chock full of tax credit investments in the form of low-cost housing properties. The company owns more than 1,000 residential properties (more than 50,000 individual units) throughout the US. Subsidiary WNC Community Preservation Partners works with property owners to sell older properties for renovation. The firm also offers third-party asset management services for institutional investors. WNC's investment base tops 19,000 and includes some of the nation's top financial institutions and insurance companies. The company was founded by Wilfred Newbury Cooper Sr. in 1971, three years after the Housing and Urban Development Act was created. Will Cooper Jr. runs WNC today.
