Birds Barbershop was hatched in 2006 by childhood friends and co-founders Michael Portman and Jayson Rapaport during a haircut rut. Getting a trim was a chore, no matter how much they spent. Their new alternative would be walk-in and affordable, unlike the low-end chains and expensive salons, made for on-the-go clients looking for value that didn?t sacrifice quality. Big mural art by local art legends, old school arcade games, a curated mixtape soundtrack and a free Shiner beer with every cut. Birds Barbershop has been recognized in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Newsweek, Bust, Vibe, Complex, Filter and across the web for their impact on the style scene. The eight-shop local chain has been named seven consecutive times to ELLE Magazine?s list of the 100 best salons in America and multiple times by Inc. as one of the nation?s 5000 fastest-growing small businesses. Birds has been voted "Best Haircut" in the Austin Chronicle ever since opening in 2006.
