University Health Care was founded in 1997 by a group of affiliated providers including the University of Louisville Medical Center, Jewish Hospital and St. Mary's HealthCare, and the Louisville/Jefferson County Primary Care Association. The health plan has an administration partnership with the AmeriHealth Mercy organization, a Medicaid managed care joint venture between AmeriHealth and Mercy Health System.
