Beacon Power

Beacon Power is a beacon of hope for companies seeking backup power. The development-stage company's flywheel energy storage systems provide uninterruptible electric power for communications networks, computers, industrial manufacturing, and other power generation applications. Beacon Power's flywheel systems draw electrical energy from a power source, such as an electric power grid or a fuel cell, and then store it. The power can then be delivered as needed when a primary energy source either fails or is disrupted. The company also makes photovoltaic power conversion systems (solar inverters). Beacon Power filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in late 2011.
