Hobart and William Smith Colleges offer a liberal arts education on the shores of Seneca Lake. The schools operate in conjunction on adjacent campuses, making a nearly 200-acre complex in Geneva, New York. Male students attend Hobart College and female students go to William Smith College, for a total enrollment of more than 2,000. The colleges have nearly 200 faculty members and offer degrees in arts, sciences, and teaching. Hobart College was founded in 1822 by Episcopal Bishop John Henry Hobart; William Smith College was founded in 1908 by local nursery owner William Smith, with help from suffragettes and other social advocates.
