Does it take a village to raise a bank? Village Bank & Trust is the holding company for Village Bank, which has about a dozen branches in the suburbs of Richmond, Virginia. It offers standard services, including deposit accounts, loans, and credit cards. Deposit funds are used to write loans for consumers and businesses in the area; commercial real estate loans, mainly secured by owner-occupied businesses, account for about half of the bank's lending portfolio, which also includes business, construction, residential mortgage, and consumer loans. In 2008 Village Bank & Trust acquired the three-branch River City Bank in a transaction worth more than $20 million.
