Western Michigan University (WMU) serves about 25,000 students at its main campus in Kalamazoo and branch campuses in Battle Creek, Benton Harbor-St. Joseph, Grand Rapids, Holland, Lansing, Muskegon, South Haven, and Traverse City, Michigan. The public university offers 150 undergraduate programs and about 70 master's programs, as well as more than two dozen doctoral degree programs. WMU's medieval studies program is internationally recognized; its annual conference on the Middle Ages draws scholars from 25 countries and every US state. WMU was founded in 1903.
