Zip it! may be an insult some places, but not at The University of Akron. The school, which has an enrollment of nearly 25,000 students, plays collegiate sports as the Zips (Zippy the Kangaroo is its mascot). It offers more than 200 undergraduate majors and 100 master's degree programs, as well as certificate and associate degree programs, through about ten schools and colleges. The university also operates the Medina County University Center; Wayne College, a branch of the university; and Summit College, a community college and technical school. The University of Akron was founded in 1870 as Buchtel College.
