Company Profile

As a pre-med student in 2012, Kyle Swinsky served as president for the University of Wisconsin-Madison’s Premedical Chapter of the American Medical Student Association, hosting and spending time with at least 30 international medical students every year. He realized first-hand the demand of rotations for international medical students at the same time learned that while hospitals needed more medical trainees, they simply didn’t have the capacity to host. He immediately identified a business need, which led to the creation of AMOpportunities with Ben Bradley, another University of Wisconsin-Madison student at the time. The two founded AMO in 2013 to provide international medical students and graduates with clinical experiences in the U.S. The company quickly grew from there. In the fall of 2017, AMOpportunities won the University of Chicago’s New Venture Challenge, raising $100,000 and and positioning themselves for their first seed round. Winning the competition allowed them to scale the company from five to 25 employees, open a new office, recruit more physicians, and bring in even more international medical students and graduates to the U.S. AMO’s platform manages clinical training at hospitals for visiting trainees globally. Growing healthcare worker shortages, especially today, necessitate more training. Healthcare schools require two or more years of on-the-job training at hospitals to graduate students. More than 27% of U.S. physicians are internationally trained. AMO’s managed clinical training creates demand on both sides. Hospitals need pipelines for international doctors and revenue while students need access to U.S. clinical training. We lead with our quality, selection, software, and services. Since our founding, AMOpportunities has helped more than 3,200 international medical students and graduates find clinical rotations in the U.S., partnered with 250+ hospitals and clinics, and connected with numerous medical schools to help their students. We continue to empower international students, graduates, and physicians in their medical journey. Mission: At AMO, we partner with trainees and educators to shape a world where an individual with a dream can learn anywhere, train anywhere, and work anywhere.
