Because home (with the growing do-it-yourself trend) is where the hardware is, Home Hardware Stores is building quite a name for itself. The member-owned cooperative, Canada's largest independent hardware retail group, supplies about 1,080 independently operated hardware, lumber, building supply, and furniture stores across the nation. By banding together, Home Hardware's members can better compete with giants RONA, Home Depot of Canada, and other big-box operators. Stores operate under the Home Hardware, Home Building Centre, Home Hardware Building Centre, and Home Furniture banners. It also sells products and offers local specials online. President Emeritus Walter Hachborn co-founded Home Hardware Stores in 1964.
