It is understandable that smaller companies (I'm talking ones with ten people or less) lack basic benefits and structure like Human Resources departments and the like. But, working for this company was out of control. The pay is low, bonuses do not exist, employees are disparaged on a weekly basis, there was always talk of equity options without any action taken whatsoever, and health benefits for an individual were $450/month. There was no way that was affordable or sustainable on an already lackluster salary. But, lack of incentive to work for them aside, the management is really the problem. This company is a one man show. Anyone with an opinion or work experience of their own need not apply. The sad thing is, they have some wonderfully talented people in place who, if permitted, would do a(n even more) fabulous job in their positions and could legitimately build something amazing. It is my impression that you hire people who are experts in their respective fields to elevate your business and to fill in gaps of knowledge. That is not the bluum way of business. It is a dictatorship. Instead of a close knit company culture, this is an environment where very talented individuals become complacent and second guess their own abilities. I was told on more than one occasion that the stress, screaming, and excessively harsh handed treatment of employees in the office was just the "growing pains" of a start-up company. There is a very big difference between growing pains and disrespect. Employees were compared to monkeys and made to feel inferior. This is an environment where no one is permitted to grow to their greatest potential and where grandstanding and throwing tantrums like a toddler are given higher consideration than treating people professionally and respectfully. I had no idea any business could exist with management like this.
