Greenmarket Managers need to unionize; are given minimal benefits & rights Greenmarket Managers -- essentially, the Greenmarket branch of GrowNYC's front-line field workers -- are treated as utterly disposable, at best; less than human, at worst. To elaborate: -They are paid well below the actual value of the considerable demands of their job, both in terms of sheer workload & the physical demands of the position -They are not truly guaranteed sick time (it's technically there, but strongly discouraged). -They are given little-to-no agency in their schedules. -They are rewarded for cheer leading and "toeing the party line," rather than actual, measurable work committed. -They are at the mercy of an ever-expanding job description which is often comprised of "miscellaneous dirty work senior staff members don't want to be involved with." -Management will bend itself into knots to deny market managers even an hour or two of overtime pay. "Rolling over" overtime hours into the next pay period (read: wage theft) used to be common practice. The list goes on, but the above paints an adequate enough picture.
