Case Manager From the very beginning, you have to consider the area and population you are working with. The area you are working in can be extremely dangerous. There is a lot of walking around expected for the job and you constantly have to keep your guard up keeping an eye on your surroundings. You see people shooting up, selling drugs, fighting, asking you for money or hitting on you etc. The smells are also horrible when you walk down the street, especially in the hot weather. You are exposed to so many things: tb, hiv, hepatitis, bed bugs, roaches, scabies just to name a few, you really have to be careful in terms of what you touch or inhale as you are walking down the streets. As far as the job itself, I found that things were a lot stressful than they should be. I felt like the main problem is that they hire people who are not qualified. From my experience, my supervisor provided no support, used any opportunity to put me down to make herself feel in control/ better about herself. Compensation is a joke. If you are considering a job at SRO I suggest also applying to Starbucks since at least they pay above minimum wage plus tips. It would be a much less stressful job and youd probably be earning more. Don't get me wrong, I did learn a lot from the company in my short time. Also, from my experience there was a lot of negativity from other coworkers. Everyone likes to talk behind each others backs and then theyll turn around and smile and be extra friendly to eachother. The atmosphere is poison and you cant trust anyone.
