I was fired for shoveling during a blizzard. I informed my boss that I was shoveling and the next day I was pulled into his office informed that we needed to speak. He told me that I needed to ask his permission to shovel and if I understood why that was inappropriate. I told him that I didn't see the need to ask his permission as the law states that one hour after snow starts homeowners are required to shovel and he told me that even if I "asked for his permission" he would not have allowed it. I'm thankful that this came up shortly into my employment because someone so outrageous is not someone I want to call my employer. Also, there were no health benefits included in the package. I was told that after 3 months, if my employment was "mutually agreeable" he would contribute $250 towards my health insurance which he would pick out on his own. I asked about sick days and he said that he hadn't decided how many sick days were allowed. This business is not new; it's been around for 25 years. The cons are just too many to name.
