Toxic Work Environment
This organization has a toxic and untenable work environment which is reflective of bad management. There is very high turnover. At least 25 staff members have resigned or been fired during the approximately 4 years in which the current Executive Director (CEO) has been in place. This is even more impactful given that there are less than 12 employees in total. Management has created an atmosphere of fear and intimidation. Staff is often made to feel that they are being set up to be fired. Often terminations are made ?without cause?. This makes the employees feel dispensable and not valued. It is not a healthy work environment when people come out of the Executive Director?s office crying. She often gives assignments intended to demoralize and demean. The ED has an autocratic rather than a collaborative management style. Policy changes are made without consulting staff beforehand and therefore without fully evaluating the potentially adverse impact of the new policies. When given feedback about the impact of her decisions, she becomes smug, inflexible and often hostile.
