While he receives recognition in his field for all of his work, VanLieshout is most well known as an innovator who develops creative athletic programs for each of his work environments. He is also great at blending technology with his athletic programs in order to better accommodate both his young athletes and their families. For instance, in his work with the Special Olympics, Paul has been known to set up live online broadcasts of the athletic meets. These events were streamed through the internet to give parents who were unable to make the journey the opportunity to see their children compete without missing a thing.

In addition, Paul VanLieshout also has extensive experience working with young athletes from different cultures, particularly from the Middle East. By spending time with these athletes and consulting with them as both a coach and a friend, he is able to make a real difference in their lives. In particular, he helps them to use athletics programs as the vehicles to assist them in gaining acceptance into, and then excelling at, a university.

Currently, VanLieshout is looking for a new career in the field of recreation management.

Extensive Professional Experience and Achievement

Over the years, Paul VanLieshout has utilized all of his varied skill set to excel in a variety of different careers. For example, from January of 2000 to May of 2001, he held the position of Director of Community Services for the Omro Senior Citizens Center in the city of Omro, WI.

In this capacity, Paul was in charge of organizing and overseeing all adult and youth sports programs as well as all special events, including aquatic events and summer camps. He also provided assistance to the living center, the department of low income health services, and the local Meals on Wheels program. In addition, he advocated for an increase in services concerning senior programming at both the state and county level. Perhaps his most notable achievement in this role was his management of a $2.6 million city project to construct the Omro Aquatic Center.

In October of 2001, Paul VanLieshout became an International Consultant for several National Sport Federations and foreign Olympic Committees. In this position he worked to introduce best practices in order to improve both facilities and performance. His responsibilities included serving as a university lecturer on the fields of sports psychology, exercise physiology, modern training techniques, and biomechanics all throughout the Middle East.

During this time, VanLieshout was also the Lead Consultant for the construction and design of the Sheik Hamdan Aquatic Center in Dubai. This $350 million center played host to the FINA World Short Course Championships in 2010.

This international consultation position lasted him until June of 2013. During this time, starting in March of 2010, he also took a position as the Head Swimming Coach for the Alexandria Sporting Club in Alexandria, Egypt. This put him in charge of a club of 400 members with responsibilities that included training an elite level group consisting of 18 members of the Egyptian National Team.

VanLieshout rose to the challenge, however, and his athletes went on to compete at multiple international tournaments. These included the FINA World Championships, the FINA World Junior Championships, the Youth Olympic Games, the African Games, and the Arab Games. In 2010 alone, his athletes ended up setting 11 new national records with their performances.

Paul left the Alexandria Sporting Club in January of 2012. The following month, he became the Head Swimming Coach of the Al Ahly Club in Cairo, Egypt. With two sites, 47 coaches, and over 700 athletes, Al Ahly is recognized as the top athletic club in all of Egypt.

Again, Paul’s responsibilities included the training of a senior group of elite level athletes, this time including half of the members of the current Egyptian National Team as well as a multitude of National Champions and National Record Holders. And again, he did not shrink from the challenge. In fact, during Paul VanLieshout’s tenure, Al Ahly won two consecutive Men’s and Women’s Open National Championships in both 2012 and 2013.
Paul VanLieshout has already completed many great achievements and garnered many excellent qualifications from his extensive career history in the fields of athletic training and project management. However, rather than dwell on past accomplishments, VanLieshout is more interested in pursuing the next major goal in a career that is already full of notable recognition.

VanLieshout’s biggest plan for the future at the moment is to pursue a new career in recreation management. This thriving field is focused on the creation and delivery of both fitness and recreation programs and can be applied to a wide variety of settings. Excelling in the field requires an extensive skill set and knowledge base in the areas of first aid, physical therapy, facilities management, and environmental cleanliness.

Luckily, Paul already possesses excellent experience in all of these vital areas. With his expert skills in team leadership, human physiology and anatomy, and psychology, he is optimistic about his current job search.

Beyond his own career, VanLieshout is also interested in sharing his own knowledge and experience with others in the industry or with an interest in athletic training and team management. Topics on which he plans to share his expertise include the following:

• How to manage high-end sports facilities on a university level
• How to form a solid sports team from a coaching perspective versus a general manager’s perspective
• How to improve different aspects of coaching through the application of technology
• Why the success of an athletic facility depends upon good management

Above all else, though, Paul VanLieshout is most interested in continuing to help athletes everywhere of any age.
